Report: Job Trends Hint at Change in Economic Cycle
Job Trends graphicAccording to the latest Cornell/SelectLeaders Job Barometer report, property and asset management job openings in the U.S. have increased significantly over the third quarter. However, overall job openings declined, with the largest declines in acquisitions and development. As employers pull back on growth-oriented hiring and focus on managing existing portfolios, these trends may indicate a possible cooldown of the economic cycle.

However, national unemployment remains low and compensation has returned to pre-recession levels; the report remains cautiously optimistic that we are not yet on the brink of an economic correction. Furthermore, the slight decline in real estate hiring was not as pronounced as the moderate slowdown in the overall job market, and the real estate hiring market remains strong. In fact, there continues to be heated competition over talent, as job openings outpace the number of qualified candidates—particularly in property management positions.

Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, a Democrat, is exploring a possible bid for governor. While she would be an underdog against Republican Gov. Greg Abbott if she were to run, Valdez told The Texas Tribune on Monday that she's "in the exploratory process" and studying election data. Abbott, who beat Democrat Wendy Davis by 20 percentage points in 2014, reported a campaign fund balance of $41 million in July. He faces no major GOP opponent and is expected to file his candidacy for a second term Saturday...
