Stephen Shepard photoStephen Shepard, CAE BOMA Austin Executive Director

Stephen Shepard, the Executive Director of BOMA Austin, moved back to Texas to take on the role in April of 2015. Stephen was no stranger to BOMA as he also served in the same role for BOMA Oakland/East Bay starting in January 2012. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and has been an active member of the association industry since 2003. Stephen has worked for other associations in the role of training and development, conferences, membership and was the Chief Operating Officer at the American Accounting Association in Sarasota, Florida.

Stephen has been active in all of his associations as a promoter of the importance of bringing young professionals into the membership of an organization. He is passionate about mentoring and at the Institute of Management Accountants helped establish the Backpack to Briefcase Series at the Student Conference. He has spoken to groups over the years about personal brand, business etiquette and generations in the workplace for such organizations as Cushman & Wakefield’s San Francisco management support team, BOMA Minneapolis’ Emerging Professionals and Student luncheon.

In August 2013 he became a Docent at the California Academy of Science due to his passion for learning, which stems from his first career as an Elementary School Teacher. Stephen earned his B.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University. Prior to associations he worked in the tech and financial services industries in different capacities such as training, marketing and customer service.

Being a Military Brat Stephen has moved around his entire life exploring new cities, living in 5 cities since graduation from University. He has visited all 50 states and numerous countries on three other continents. He loves to travel and participate in outdoor activities with friends. His dream vacations are the Galapagos Islands and Australia/New Zealand. He has done volunteer work in the past with the American Cancer Society, The Wounded Warriors Project, and different HIV/Aids organizations in the places he resided. He is very close with his family, which besides BOMA Austin is the reason he is happy to be back in Texas.
